Era of Good Feelings Essay Example for Free
Era of Good Feelings Essay An Era of Good Feeings is unity within a country, a stable government, beneficial or good foreign policy, and more. It shows how a country or region is in a good time period in regards to politics, economics, and social factors. The time period after the War of 1812 is often labeled the Era of Good Feelings due to nationalism. The government along with the people encouraged and maintained unity and stabilization within the country. There are many examples of nationalism that support that the time period after the War of 1812 was an era of good feelings. One example was the construction of canals and roads (Doc. B). The construction of roads and canals lead to more communication in regards to spreading news and informing one another about whats going on in society. Furthermore, they lead to easier transportation. With roads and canals people were able to travel much easier and interact with one another more. An example of a canal that was built was the Erie Canal, the Erie Canal allowed goods to transfer from city to city in a much more efficient way. Another example of nationalism was the slave revolt (Doc. G). A former slave by the name of Denmark Vesey decided to plan a slave revolt after becoming free from his owner. Thousands of blacks were involve with the plan by overthrowing their owners by killing them. He eventually was set out to be hung once the whole massacre was over with. This is an example of nationalism because it shows how equality was being fought by black citizens. They were revolting to show how they think that they should be treated exactly how the whites were treated instead of being mistaken as servants. Lastly, another example of nationalism was the Monroe Doctrine (Doc. H). The Monroe Doctrine stated that European nations should not and can not interfere with affairs of the Western Hemisphere. In other words it was telling Europeans to back off and leave the United States alone. This is an example of nationalism because it shows how the Unites States was taking a stand for themselves and showing European power that they were not going to tolerate anyone stepping ove r them since they ultimately knew themselves that they had power which meant they were a force to be reckoned with. These are some of many examples of nationalism that support that the time period after the War of 1812 was an Era of Good Feelings. Many can argue that the time period following the War of 1812 was an Era of Good Feelings in result of nationalism. One example ofà nationalism that support the statement are the roads and canals. Furthermore, another example was the slave revolt that was lead by Denmark Vesey. Lastly, another example was the signing of the Monroe Doctrine. Nationalism within the United States positively affected the country by leading them to maintain and further expand their country over the years.

Fire in the Lake :: essays research papers
Fire in the Lake By Gerard Chretienà à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à English:Vietnam 2002 à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à Prof:Morgan Shulz Twenty-eight years after publication, and 25 after the war's end, Fire in the Lake remains one of the very best books on the Viet Nam war. Sadly, Americans are woefully ignorant of the rest of the world. We have little real knowledge of our own history; but for the rest of the world's history and culture, we have neither knowledge nor regard. We do not even do the Vietnamese people the courtesy of respecting the name of their country--Viet Nam, not Vietnam; Sai Gon, not Saigon. Fitzgerald helps to correct some of this ignorance and arrogance. She begins examining the U.S. in Viet Nam from the perspective of Vietnamese history and culture; and in the process, demonstrating the tenacity and courage of the Vietnamese people, as well as their determination to rid themselves of any foreign invaders, even if, as with the Chinese, it takes 1,000 years. Another great strength of Fitzgeraldââ¬â¢s book is, with her attention to Viet Nam's history and culture and their 20th century struggle against the French, she demonstrates, in an almost matter of fact way, a fundamental tenant of U.S. foreign policy which has been repeated numerous times in the post World War II era. That central tenant is to support thugs over patriots, to elevate to power those who will sell out their people for 30 pieces of silver rather than work with those committed to the well being of their people. Ho Chi Minh was our ally during WWII; his hero was Thomas Jefferson, not Karl Marx or Stalin. He was very pro-American; yet he was a nationalist and a patriot first, which meant, from the perspective of the U.S., he was not only unreliable, but someone who had to be destroyed. And though Fitzgerald does not carry her analysis beyond Viet Nam, an informed or a curious reader quickly can draw the parallels between U.S. policy in Viet Nam and U.S. policy in Africa, the Middle East, the Pacific rim (Indonesia specifically), South America, the Caribbean, and most obvious of all, Central America. Thus F itzgerald gives us not only the means of understanding the war in Viet Nam, and why we were doomed to lose, but also a point of departure for understanding the travesty of U.

Egypt vs. Fertile Crescent Essay
During the early dynastic period, the early River Civilizations had just come to be. Egypt and The Fertile Crescent were 2 of the civilizations. Different civilizations were developing different things as well as living two different ways of life. In social and intellectual ways, these two civilizations handled themselves in very similar as well as many different ways to function the way they did and remain stable while they could. Egypt and the Fertile Crescent shared certain things within the social and political part of their civilizations. They both needed a lot of work to be done. Anywhere from building pyramids, to parts of a city, someone had to do it, but who? To solve this dilemma, the Fertile Crescent used slaves, and Egypt had laborers. Having slaves or laborers made is accomplishable for job positions to be filled within a city, or made it easier and quicker to finish projects ordered by the Pharaoh. In an intellectual view, both developed a form of writing. The Fertile Crescent invented the cuneiform, which is also the first form of writing, to pass down history. As well as Egypt, they had hieroglyphics, which served the same purpose, In other words, they needed a way to keep records from generation to generation. To do this, they used what they had to develop a form of writing to accomplish this. As for differences between to two civilizations, they were very many social and political ones. The Fertile Crescent had a small amount of social classes. They had a priest, merchants, and slaves. Those are the basic classes. The significance of having a less amount of classes is simplicity. Also, because the Monarchy already holds most of the power, it has no need for someone else to have any. Egypt had a lot more compared to them. Pharaohs, Land owners, Army commander, merchants, Farmers, and Laborers. While having more social classes than The Fertile Crescent, it might seem to make it harder on them for they have more going on, and more people doing more things, but it made it easier on the Pharaoh. Yes, he still had say so in what went on, but there were still different people in charge of different things. As for any intellectual differences, Egypt was able to develop a calendar. By doing this, they were able to tell when any floods were coming and it was no surprise. Not only did this calendar only help with flooding problems, but they could also mark any important date of when anything happened during their time. On the other hand, the Fertile Crescent was always hit by surprise by floods from the river. They never developed a calendar, so for them, they had no clue when a flood was coming and it became a panic when it did.

7 Points That Your Professional Resume Should and Should NOT Have
Having a great professional resume is perhaps one of the most important things you will need. It will either set you up for failure or success before even walking into an interview. The following points will help you to be the latter! You Should: 1.à à Be Precise Get to the point, make it simple, and donââ¬â¢t be long-winded. 2.à à Use Bullet Points When Practical You should use bullet points when outlining previous job details and for other parts where you can be more concise. 3.à à Use a Resume Template Give your resume a more professional look by using a modern template. The layout of the resume is often the first impression. 4.à à Tailor It Make sure your resume reflects a response to the specific job listing you are answering. 5.à à Have a Clear Header Recruiters and interviewers need to know your name, but more importantly, they need to know how to contact you. Make it easy for them. 6.à à Add a Cover Letter In addition to tailoring the resume, adding a cover letter for that specific job will definitely help you stand out. 7.à à Describe Accomplishments Instead of Responsibilities Responsibilities of past jobs were things you were supposed to do and can be found in any job description. Instead, say how you did them. You Should NOT: 1.à à Be Too General Being general will not help you stand out from the rest. It will only tell the employer that you are as the next man. 2.à à Have Inaccurate Information False information in your resume can be a felony depending on what it is. Even if itââ¬â¢s a small lie, if you are caught you will be fired. Itââ¬â¢s always better to be honest and real. 3.à à Spelling and Grammar Errors These errors wonââ¬â¢t get you anywhere except for the not interviewing pile. Edit carefully! 4.à à Use Fancy Fonts and Different Colors You have to stand out but in a good way. Using crazy fonts and bright colors will get you noticed, but not in the way you want. Better stick to Times New Roman or Cambria. 5.à à Make It More Than One Page Although every country is different, if you are writing in the US style, limit your resume to one page. A resume is to show what you have done, not to tell your life story. 6.à à Sound Too Generic Using tons of keywords and phrases that everyone else does to make themselves sound more professional doesnââ¬â¢t describe who you really are and what you are capable of. 7.à à Include Irrelevant Information The last thing the human resources department wants to know or cares about are things that have nothing to do with the job you are trying to get. Keep the extras to yourself or share them with your new colleagues after you have gotten the job. Job searching and going through interviews is stressful and hard work. We wish you the best of luck on your journey to finding something you truly love. Using these doââ¬â¢s and donââ¬â¢ts will help to get you there, so donââ¬â¢t ignore them.
